Dining @ Chef Daniel Kitchen

Yesterday was my second times to Chef Daniel Kitchen @ Illuma. Previously, it was Cecilea who has recommended me to this restaurant for lunch. It was a set of 3 course meals which cost about $13 (if I'm not wrong).

This time round, I've brought Lilian to the same restaurant for dinner (to celebrate our birthdays). There are more diners compared to my previous visit. Due to CNY, there were more variety of course meals for us to choose. After much thinking, both Lilian and I have choosen Twice Cook Sakura Chicken & Panfried Halibut Fillet.

First came the soup of the day which was mixed beans soup. Lilian does not like the soup and she find that the portion served was too little. As for me, my comment was average.

Soup of the day

It took them quite awhile before they served us our main courses. Well, at least my Panfried Halibut Fillet looks good and taste alright. The panfried fillet was not too bad except the soup base (something like Longtong soup) has spoilt the original taste of the fillet.

As for Lilian's Twice Cook Sakura Chicken, it was kind of pathetic. Honestly, both of us are unable to figure out what is that "ball' of thing made of.. Definietly does not taste like a fish ball to us.. =) The "2 pieces chicken" was so small that after she has finished the food, she commented that it was not filling at all.

Main Course: Panfried Halibut Fillet
Main Course: Twice Cook Sakura Chicken
Lastly came our desserts which Lilian felt that it was the best dish out of the previous 2 dishes. The centre part of the cake has some mango creamy fill with fruit bits (think something like pear) which I personally liked it.

Dessert: Mango Cake
There was live band in the restaurant which did create or add on to the dining experience. To our amaze, there were infact many January babies. Throughout the dinner, the performers have received quite a number of birthday songs requested by the diners. This was our first time encountering so many people celebrating their birthdays at the same location. Haha..

Overall experience dinner experience in Chef Daniel Kitchen was average, nothing much to raa raa about. Rating given maybe 7 out of 10.

My first attempt baking Shepherd Pies......

I've been eating quite a different types of shepherd pies last X'mas. In addition, my lady boss has told me how she made the sheperd pies during last X'mas eve for her guests. Hence, I've decided to try baking some for my family.

The ingredients are quite easy to obtain and they are as follows:

For the mashed potatoes part
Potatoes
Milk
Egg yolk
Salt
Peppers
Butter

For the minced meat portion
Minced chicken meat
Black peppers sauce
Mixed vegetables

It has been a long time since I last baked during school days. Therefore, I'm kind of clumsy on that day of baking. I'm not sure what should be the temperature for these pies and what were the 'exact' amount of ingredients to prepare or add. Ultimately, what I did was just based on estimation.

Lcukily, I'm still able to get all the ingredients prepared. Although the 'final' products look alrite, there was still space for my improvement. Hopefully the next round of attempt would be better than this time.
